Understanding Vaping Metal Coils
So you finally arrived to the next level of vaping and are interesting in learning the art of rebuilding coils. This will most certainly make your vaping experience more enjoyable than ever, but that's only if you understand the various types of metals that can be used in building coils. Learning the various metal coil types will help you achieve what you're looking for- whether it's to achieve that sensational throat hit or create those awesome clouds of vapor.
Basically, there are five types of metals used in building coils:
Stainless Steel
This might just be the most superior of other metals used in building coils. This metal is especially great in enhancing flavor. Stain less steel will last longer than other metals and is therefore a cost-effective coil build. If you rebuild your own coils, selected still for its ability to stay longer without rusting. It can be used in the varying vaping devices, whether on wattage mode or in the latest technology devices that have temperature control.
Titanium
The elasticity of this metal makes it very easy to work with. You'll notice that it heats up pretty fast and cools down with the same speed. This type of wire works best in vaping devices that have a dedicated temperature control. If you're to rebuild your coils using this metal, you must learn how to safely vape on it. Only use low wattages with your titanium coils. Otherwise, only use if it comes with a temperature control.
Nickel
Among the various metals used in building coils, nickel heats up the fastest. It has a resistance so low that it'll melt down when high wattages are used. When rebuilding your coils, consider using nickel and another metal like kanthal. If not, ensure that you give more wraps to your build. This'll prevent it from overheating and melting. You can also prevent a short in nickel wires by creating spaces between the wraps, simply by twisting the wire before you begin to coil. Ensuring that wraps don't touch each other is beneficial in the even distribution of heat.
NiChrome
For cloud chasers, coils made of Nichrome metals are ideal. It has the ability to heat up within a very short time, meaning that the vaper can start enjoying flavor and vapor almost immediately. This metal isn't for everyone though. It could cause reactions in people who have a nickel allergy. If you've a nickel allergy, consider substituting it with iron. The flavor might not be as defined as in Nichrome but you can’t afford to risk your health for flavor.
Kanthal
This is one of the pioneers for coil rebuilding. It might not be great at enhancing flavors, but it certainly has a lot of advantages to offer. First, the metal is really cheap. Secondly, this metal is really easy to work with, given its elasticity. Lastly, it can withstand high temperatures, meaning it is very safe.
When selecting a coil, it's easy to be overwhelmed by the plethora of metals available. To make work easier, choose a metal that can work with your vaping device. For instance, temp control MODs, stainless steel, nickel and titanium are ideal while kanthal and nichrome are ideal for wattage MODs and other vaping devices.
